My Journey with Dyslexia

Hi, I'm Jamie Briggs. I was diagnosed with dyslexia in Primary 1, and I know firsthand the challenges it can bring. With the right strategies and support, I turned those challenges into strengths—achieving A Band 1s in all 15 exams I took in secondary school, and now studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. I also tutored dozens of students in maths and physics every week, helping them build confidence and achieve their academic goals.

Now, I'm looking to inspire and aid dyslexic students like myself. I've noticed a lack of information on effectively using tools and navigating the academic world as a dyslexic student. Over the years, I've been approached by many people curious about how I've managed it all—so I've created this course to share what I've learned and help others succeed.

Your First Steps to Dyslexia Success

Three proven strategies that help dyslexic learners read, write, and study with confidence.

1

TEXT TO SPEECH

Read with Your Ears

Switch from reading to listening — or do both at once. Text-to-speech tools read any document aloud while highlighting words on-screen, combining audio and visual input to make comprehension easier and faster.

Focus Comprehension Accessibility
2

DICTATION

Write with Your Voice

Turn your thoughts into text using your voice. Dictation helps dyslexic students express ideas freely without getting stuck on spelling or handwriting. With practice, it becomes the fastest way to write.

Expression Productivity Confidence
3

SMART STUDY TOOLS

Study Smarter, Not Harder

Use modern tools to help you understand and remember. From digital flashcards to AI tutors that quiz and explain, these strategies help you study independently and retain knowledge better.

Learning Recall Independence

Want your child to learn all this in a structured, supportive way?

Our courses make it easy and fun — no need to figure it out alone. They'll learn step by step, meet other dyslexic students their age, and discover even more helpful tools. Most importantly, it's not just about the tools — it's about the skills that build real confidence.

The Support That Made School Work for Me

My dad Johnathan is also dyslexic. Like many dyslexics, school was difficult for him because he didn't have the right support. That experience made him determined to make sure I always had what I needed — whether that meant getting the right tools or speaking up on my behalf.

Having a laptop at school made a huge difference. It meant I could use text-to-speech, dictation, and all the other tools that level the playing field. It also led to me having a reader and scribe in exams.

It's so important that every dyslexic student has access to the right setup. That's what helps them learn in the way that suits them best.

Some Quick Things:

  • Get a laptop if you can. Having my own laptop meant I could use it anywhere — at school or at home — and it was always set up just how I needed it.
  • Encourage your child to use the tools. After the small learning curve, tools like text-to-speech and dictation make a huge difference.
  • Most importantly: Dyslexia isn't a disability or an excuse — it's a difference.

You don't need to fix dyslexia—you need the right setup.

Coming Soon: Free Webinar with My Dad

We've recorded a short webinar where my dad and I talk about the tools that can really help a dyslexic child — and share our own experience of getting the school on side and finding the right support.

It's not a "how-to" guide — just our story. My dad also shares a few tips and reflections from all those conversations over the years that helped us make school work better for me.

You can sign up below, and I'll send you the video as soon as it's ready.

Recommended Tech

My Go-To Tools

(What I Use That Works For Me)

💻

A Laptop

I recommend a 14" Windows laptop — it fits your school bag and runs all accessibility software easily. Most software is designed for Windows first, so compatibility is smooth.

📱

A Mobile Device

iPhones and iPads work brilliantly for dictation and reading tools. A tablet is perfect for portable studying and voice typing.

🎧

Headphones

Bluetooth earbuds are subtle and practical — you can listen to lessons or notes anywhere without standing out.

Quick note: These are just the tools I personally use and recommend. Everyone has their own preferences — and every dyslexic student finds different setups that work best for them. In my course, everything is designed to work on any device, so whatever you already have — laptop, tablet, or phone — will be absolutely fine.

I'm passionate about helping as many dyslexic learners as I can. There's a real gap in support that shows you how to use digital tools the dyslexic way—whether you're 10 or 50. These tools changed everything for me: I went from being written off to earning straight A*s, and I'm now studying Electrical Engineering at Strathclyde. It's not just possible—it's practical.

Everything above will get you started. If you'd like step-by-step guidance, live demos, and a simple plan you can actually stick to, Mastering Dyslexia teaches it all—so you're set up for life.
